Extracts taken from ‘the long way’ book:
“Preservation Inlet granted us the rare privilege of seeing it at its finest. On this day we could easily claim to be in the most stunning and remote place in New Zealand.”
“We fished and snorkelled just off the beach. We had one wetsuit with us, it was a bit small for Tyrell and a bit big for me but with a few bulky thermal layers I stayed warm enough.
Below the surface was a jungle of seaweed and kelp full of fish darting about as if playing hide and seek with each other. Below me the paua hid their rainbow cloak beneath barnacle encrusted shells while shafts of lights danced from rock to rock illuminating the scene and showcasing the vibrant colours of this secret watery world.
We walked to Puysegur Point and watched the most incredible sunset of the whole journey. There mustn’t be many people that have stood at that windiest point in New Zealand, looking out over the Southern Ocean, and not felt a breath of wind on their cheek.”
