Woolshed Creek Hut is a comfortable, serviced backcountry hut set within the striking landscape of the Hakatere Conservation Park, near Mt Somers / Te Kiekie in Canterbury. The hut stands in a region shaped by ancient volcanic activity, where layers of rhyolite, basalt, and ignimbrite tell the story of explosive geological events millions of years ago. Originally linked to early 20th-century coal mining, the area has since transformed into a varied and interesting area for trampers exploring the Mt Somers Track, a great first tramp for families with the option of doing the three day loop around the mountain.
