Bob's Hut is one of New Zealand’s iconic backcountry huts nestled deep in the stunning Nelson Lakes National Park. The Spencer Mountains and Mt Maling tower above it and nearby the Matakitaki River meanders by. It has a history stretching back to the days of the deer cullers, has had a few transformations and upgrades but has managed to retain its classic four pane windows. Some of the cladding is flattened out fuel containers which gives the cladding the patch work look. It's thought that it is named after Bob "Smiley" Boyd...geography and outdoor ed teacher at Nelson College.
