The Edge of Day
46 x 65cms $3400
This painting draws on the experience of being high on the South Island tops, in that quiet world above the treeline where the air feels sharper and colours seem to carry further. It isn’t a specific place, but a memory of many places, the sweep of distant ranges, the crunch of tussock underfoot, and the unexpected burst of alpine flowers holding their own in the wind. It’s a piece about space, light, and that unmistakable sense of being lifted into the mountains.
Works represented by gallery partners are available exclusively through them.
Guardians of the Pass
46 x 65cms $3400
This piece celebrates the cheeky, inquisitive nature of the kea, perched confidently on alpine rocks alive with hardy mountain plants. Their bright eyes and curious posture capture the playful intelligence they’re so well known for, while the textured flora beneath them grounds the scene in the rugged, high-altitude world they call home.

Remote Coast
69cm x 58cm $2800
This piece looks south from Hahei, towards a stretch of coastline hidden from most by the pā at the end of the beach. On still days, when the ocean turns glassy and the wind falls away, its magic is revealed. You can glide over the ocean’s oily surface in a kayak, peer down into the clear depths and slip in and out of sea caves as if discovering a secret world. Then the swell returns, the wind lifts, and this quiet wonderland is concealed once more.
Among Tussock and Time
46 x 65cms $3400
Inspired by, though not a direct depiction of, the Arrow River, this painting looks down into a sweeping river valley framed by soft, golden tussock. Tussock butterflies drift through the foreground. It reflects the sense of stillness and timelessness found in these landscapes, where small movements and vast spaces coexist in perfect balance.
Secret Wave
50cm x 50cm $2800
Peering down through layers of cabbage trees, hebe, and harakeke, this painting captures a slice of hidden Coromandel shoreline.
This artwork is available through Moko Artspace at Hot Water Beach.

Misty Morning at Flaxmill Bay
NZ$4200.00 158cm x 50cm
A misty morning at Flaxmill Bay set the scene for this piece, inspired by a gentle wander with my sons around the Shakespear Cliff tracks and along the quiet shoreline. We paused often to hunt for shells, the boys marveling at every new shape they discovered. Their favourite was what Felix calls an “orn horn”, a unicorn horn shaped shell, treasured for its perfect spiral. The calm, muted light and those quietly joyful moments together created a sense of deep serenity that I wanted to capture in this work.
Captured by the Tide
35cm x 35cm $1200
This painting is inspired by a perfectly round rock pool at our local beach. Each time we peer into its depths we always discover something new, from tiny creatures, shifting colours, hidden treasures revealed and concealed by the sea. It holds a moment in time within its ever-changing world, a quiet reminder of how the ocean reshapes its stories with every tide that passes.
Puriri
53cm x 54cm $2800
Puriri moths live as a grub in the bark of a puriri tree for up to six years then spend two days as a moth. In this painting the background pattern is made up of hexagons to represent the six years as a grub. In each set of six whichever way you look at it you’ll find two stylised moths to show the two days they spend in that form. In the other segments are leaves, berries and flowers from the puriri tree and the starry sky.

This piece captures orca driving stingrays into the shallows, their powerful movements unfolding just metres from my kayak. The scene holds the tension and exhilaration of the chase, balanced with the quiet awe of witnessing such wild beauty up close.

Gooseneck Barnacles
63cm x 30cm $1600
We were walking down the beach after a big storm and noticed lots of wood washed up covered in this strange looking shells attached to the logs with rubbery tubes. They were alienlike and fascinating. I found out that they were Gooseneck Barnacles and are crustaceans that attach themselves to rocks, driftwood, or other hard surfaces in wave-swept coastal areas. They have a long, flexible stalk topped with a hard shell, and use feathery appendages to filter plankton from the water. Often found in dense clusters, they thrive in strong currents and are considered a delicacy in parts of Europe. Their unusual shape and hardy lifestyle make them one of the most striking inhabitants of the intertidal zone. I had to go straight home and paint them!

Hut Scapes
This project is a collaboration with the Backcountry Trust who maintain and restore our backcountry hut system. I’ve created a unique series of paintings of some of our favourite huts in the backcountry. A large portion of the proceeds from these paintings goes to the Backcountry Trust.
Mataketake Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Mataketake Hut was opened in 2021 and was funded from a bequest from the late writer, nature guide and conservationist Andy Dennis who spent many years campaigning for the conservation of New Zealand's wild places and marine environment. His trustees chose this South Westland site for it's inspiring view to the coast and in memory of the work Andy had put in to write the South-west World Heritage guidebook.
Bealey Spur Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Bealey Spur Hut is one of the oldest remaining musterers’ huts in the Arthur’s Pass region. It was built around 1935 for the men who worked the surrounding high-country sheep runs. Long before it became a trampers’ favourite, it was a place of hard work and isolation, a small timber hut weathering the snow and wind. When the mustering days faded, trampers began following the same ridgeline for its sweeping views of the Waimakariri Valley, and the hut was adopted into the recreation network.
Cape Brett Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Cape Brett Hut is located in the Bay of Islands and is the former lighthouse keeper's house. Built in the early 1900s to support the Cape Brett Lighthouse, the hut offers stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The Cape Brett Lighthouse was first lit in 1910 and played a crucial role in guiding ships around the hazardous Northland coastline.
Long Harry Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Long Harry Hut is perched on the rugged northwest coast of Rakiura / Stewart Island. It is a remote 12-bunk shelter built in 2004 to replace an earlier hut nearby and now serves as a key stop on the island’s challenging North-West Circuit. The hut takes its name from “Long Harry” Woodman, a local figure believed to have lived in the area or nearby Codfish Island.
Komata Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Komata Hut is nestled in the Kaweka Forest Park in Hawke’s Bay. It was originally built in the early 1960s as “Comet Hut” for forestry workers and hunters but was located at a road end and suffered neglect and abuse. In 2022–24, an inspiring all-female volunteer team led by the Backcountry Trust, relocated and rebuilt the hut on a terrace 30m above the Ngaruroro River.
Lake Roe Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Perched on a windswept alpine basin above Dusky Sound, Lake Roe Hut sits among the misty tarns and tussock plateaus of Fiordland National Park. Originally built in the late 1960s as a basic shelter. Thanks to this dedicated effort, Lake Roe Hut is now ready to withstand the next half-century of winter storms, continuing its quiet service to trampers tackling the wild and beautiful Dusky Track.
Dundas Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Dundas Hut is a six-bunk Forest Service–style hut located at 1,200m on the main Tararua Range, built in 1961 by the New Zealand Forest Service. Its elevated position offers expansive views over the Tararua Range, making it a popular stop for experienced trampers completing multi-day traverses.
Kelman Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
This is not a hut for the faint hearted. It is usually reached by helicopter and has no heating. Perched at 2,430 m on a ridge above Tasman Saddle at the head of the Tasman Glacier in Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, it is one of New Zealand’s highest huts. It’s surrounded by towering peaks, vast snowfields, and glacial icefalls, a paradise for ski touring and climbing in New Zealand.
Upper Nina Biv
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Upper Nina Bivvy is a modest two‑bunk backcountry shelter tucked high in Lake Sumner Conservation Park in Canterbury. Nestled in a clearing above the braided Nina River at around 820 m above sea level, it has been extensively renovated (2018) by the Backcountry Trust.
Ivory Lake Hut
30.5cm x 30.5cm $800
Set high in a stark alpine cirque, Ivory Lake Hut sits beside its glacier-fed lake at the heart of one of Aotearoa’s most significant research sites. Built in 1970 for glaciologists, the hut supported decades of science. Anchored to the polished rock on concrete piles, the six-bunk hut has endured half a century of storms and silence, later restored by volunteers to preserve its legacy.
